May 24, 2007 Special Town Board Meeting
Special Board Meeting of May 24, 2007 Chairman Jeff Long called the meeting to order at 7:32 p.m. (after the opening of the 2007 Board of Review). Also present were Henry Bauer, John Hanson, Ken Ehle, Steve Duba and Barbara Boston. MOTION/SCHUENEMANN: SECOND/SPENCER: To approve the agenda as posted. MOTION CARRIED. Guest Steve Duba asked about top soil on Hwys K&H to be used for area around new Historical Building under public forum. Chairman Long to check this out. New Business: a.Discussion w/Manitowish Waters Board Members – Henry Bauer and John Hanson regarding connecting bike trail from BJ to MW. Discussion ensued: The boards will begin with appointing a committee. The costs have doubled in 10 years. Grants of 80/20 from WI DNR Stewardship Fund could be applied for, however, only 20% are granted to those applying. John Hanson felt this is only opportunity to improve tourism for his town. BJ clerk to put on June agenda - the formation of an ad hoc committee. b.Discussion was held on sale of wobble wheel roller which is not currently being used by the town crew. MOTION/LONG: SECOND/SCHUENEMANN: To advertise for bids to be opened at the June 19th meeting. c.The BJ Fire Department building needs painting on the outside. Chairman Long explained there is not any money budgeted for the year, so suggested the only fund he had available was in fire truck major repairs. MOTION/LONG: SECOND/SPENCER: To use $4900 from the fire truck major repair fund. MOTION CARRIED. d.Digital projector: discussion ensued regarding assisting the library on purchase of projector. Volunteer organizations and churches in town will also be approached for donations. Total cost will be about $1500.00 MOTION/SPENCER: SECOND/LONG: To approve use of $200 from clerk’s office budget toward purchase of projector. MOTION CARRIED. e.Fireworks for Musky Jamboree street dance on August 10. Funds to come from fireworks savings fund. MOTION/LONG: SECOND/SCHUENEMANN: To approve use of $1000 from fireworks fund for street dance on August 10. MOTION CARRIED. f.Salary for Parks & Rec director, Ken Roeder was discussed. MOTION/SCHUENEMANN: SECOND/LONG: To approve a 5% increase for director’s salary for 2007. MOTION CARRIED. g.Room tax collections for lst quarter of 2007were $10,209.82. This was 19% down from 2006. h.Operator License applications for Lisa K. Coon, Steve Wheeler and Catherine A. Schneider were reviewed. MOTION/LONG: SECOND/SCHUENEMANN: To approve operator licenses for above mentioned people. MOTION CARRIED. i.Discussion was held on the preparation of a letter to Vilas County regarding the disposition of the old county shop building on Community Street. Supervisor Schuenemann felt it was an eyesore and something should be done with it, if possible. Chairman Long stated an asbestos study was being done. MOTION/LONG: SECOND/SCHUENEMANN: To request an update of plans for the building and the time table for disposition. MOTION CARRIED. j.Discussion was held on our intent to renew our liability and general insurance with the Horton Group. Chairman Long stated this insurance is endorsed by the WI Town’s Association. MOTION/LONG: SECOND/SPENCER: To sign the letter of intent with the Horton Group for our liability and general insurance renewal. MOTION CARRIED.
