Boulder Junction making final preparations for second annual White Deer Triathlon
Registration still open for paddle/bike/run triathlon that returns to Northwoods on May 21
BOULDER JUNCTION, Wis. (May 10, 2016)—Final preparations are underway for the second annual White Deer Triathlon, which returns to Boulder Junction in Wisconsin’s scenic Northwoods onSaturday, May 21.
Interested racers can still register for this year’s event by visiting the White Deer Triathlon website, www.whitedeertriathlon.com. Signing up electronically ends on Thursday, May 19th; however, racers can sign up in person on Friday, May 20th, from 5:00 until 8:30pm in the Boulder Junction Community Center during the registration/orientation session.
“We’re looking forward to the return of the White Deer Triathlon,” said Theresa Smith, executive director of the Boulder Junction Chamber of Commerce. “We’re excited to welcome all the participants, friends and family members to the race, and our volunteers and sponsors are helping us to ensure another successful triathlon here in Boulder Junction.”
Instead of the typical swim/bike/run format of most triathlons, the White Deer Triathlon features a unique paddle/bike/run format—ideal for the still-cold waters of northern Wisconsin in May. Participants will complete a 3-kilometer canoe/kayak/stand-up paddleboard route on Boulder Lake, a 23-kilometer bike ride on rustic roads and a 6.5-kilometer run on rustic trails.
Racers can compete individually or in teams.
Last year’s race attracted more than 250 athletes and hundreds of spectators to Boulder Junction. Racers ranged in age from 15 to 71 and came from as far away as Colorado, Florida and Massachusetts.
More information and registration links can be found on www.whitedeertriathlon.com or on the White Deer Triathlon Facebook page, www.facebook.com/whitedeertriathlon.
“This is one of the more unique triathlons out there, and we’ve got such a beautiful setting for it here in Boulder Junction,” Smith said. “If you’re looking for a reason to get out and explore the Northwoods this spring, this is a great way to do it.”
The White Deer Triathlon is part of the Northwoods of Wisconsin (NOW) Tri-Master Series, a group of triathlons held in Vilas, Oneida and Langlade counties throughout the spring, summer and fall. The 2016 series also includes the Just Tri It Triathlon (Manitowish Waters, July 2), the See Me Tri Triathlon (Woodruff, Aug. 13), the WILD Hodag Mini-Triathlon (Rhinelander, Aug. 27) and the Wolfman Triathlon (Langlade County, Sept. 10).
